Advertising Cost

Every company should have access to advertising to help increase sales and improve product R&D. Many Nonprofits and Startups can’t afford professional advertising services. The service cost and cost of ad placements make it a difficult commitment. The U.S. Small Business Administration states that companies with less than $5 million in revenue should invest 7-8% of their revenue into marketing.

Industry Standard

7-8% might seem like a lot of money. However, the average hourly ad service cost makes it tough for startups to achieve a high media budget. Credo reports that the average service PPC company in the US charges $151.88 per hour. 29.37% (close to 1 in 3) charge less than $100/hr.

As for monthly costs, brands can expect to spend around $1,500 on the pay-per-click agency. The Tweet below is from 2022.

These numbers suggest that a brand pays a minimum of $6,000/month for the pay-per-click service and ad placements. 25% of the overall budget would go to the agency.

Additionally, most pay-per-click agencies have set media minimums in place (Source: Credo).

  • 20.45% of PPC agencies will take single projects (audits etc) under $1k

  • 40.26% of PPC agencies will take single projects (audits etc) under $2k

  • 15% of PPC agencies will not take single projects less than $5k

  • Only 11.36% of respondents have a minimum of over $5k/mo

The high hourly rate and project minimums deter brands from ad services. Brands need to make around $100,000/month just to see a small media budget while the majority of the net budget would go to the PPC company. The set project budgets can turn away brands as well, especially in 2022. Brands must deal with inflation and uncertainty around every corner.
